Matins for the Reign of Christ

Posted on November 17, 2020

The Liturgy of the Hours podcast is back this week with our liturgists Nate Crary and Luther seminarian Hannah Sackett, who recorded this prayer outside in the courtyard of the University Lutheran Church of Hope while wearing masks and standing 20 feet apart. We note that there have been at this point 1.3 million deaths worldwide due to the coronavirus; 18.7% of which have occurred in the United States.

This is the last episode of season two, in which we have offered Matins, or prayer for the morning time. Morning Prayer points us to Christ’s resurrection dawn. This week we prepare for the end of the church year with the Reign of Christ. We confess that Christ is our King and pray for Christ’s kingdom to come — on earth as it is in heaven.

Leading Digital Worship Anew – 11 a.m. Central November 24

Posted on November 17, 2020

Have you felt in over your head trying to fill the roles of both worship leader and videographer? For many congregations, video-based worship experiences are new and often frustrating experiments that were not in their 2020 strategic plan! This training will equip you with many no-budget (free) or low-budget (less than $100) solutions that will yield a high-impact on the quality and clarity of your video worship experiences.

Topics will include basic tricks and tips for composition, lighting, sound, and editing with accessible techniques and approaches any congregation can benefit from. We will work to gently move from simply filming what we have always done to thinking intentionally about how we can modify our behavior and spaces to be the Body of Christ when we gather remotely.

Luther Seminary student Nathan Lyke has served in vocational ministry for the past 17 years and also holds a degree in filmmaking. He has served as a children and youth minister, worship leader, and communications director while also freelancing as a videographer. In the past eight months he has used this blend of experiences to create video worship services for youth ministry, graduation and chapel services as a student at Luther Theological Seminary, and as an archivist for a forthcoming 2021 documentary feature film.
