All Saints 2021
All Saints celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who are the body of Christ. As November heralds the dying of the landscape in many northern regions, the readings and liturgy call us to remember all who have died in Christ and whose baptism is complete. We will gather as a community in chapel to observe All Saints Day at 11 a.m. Central Wednesday, November 3.
You are invited to share the name or names of saints who have died in the last year using this form. We will read what is offered in public worship that will also be livestreamed and later archived on YouTube.
Today: Welcoming Our LGBTQI2A Siblings, Led by Austen Hartke
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today!
Join us using this Zoom link. The passcode will be in the community announcements email.
Pull up a chair and learn about all of the identities represented in the LGBTQI2A acronym! We’ll learn about what all those letters mean, how orientation is different from gender, and what kinds of experiences people with marginalized gender and sexual identities have in Christian communities.
More about Austen:
Austen Hartke is the author of “Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians,” published by Westminster John Knox Press in 2018. He is also the founder and director of Transmission Ministry Collective, an online community dedicated to the spiritual care, faith formation, and leadership potential of transgender and gender-expansive Christians. He is a graduate of Luther Seminary’s Master of Arts program in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible Studies, and is the winner of the 2014 John Milton Prize in Old Testament Writing from the same institution. As a transgender person of faith, Austen’s greatest passion is helping other trans and gender-expansive people see themselves in scripture.
Virtual Halloween Costume Contest
Calling all spooky ghosts, celebrity look-alikes, and anyone who can “creep it real”! The Luther Seminary Community Facebook page will host the first ever Virtual Costume Contest on October 31. Entering is easy! On Halloween (aka Reformation Day) post a picture of you, your family, your cute kids, your roommates, or your adorable pets in their Halloween costume on the Halloween Costume Facebook post. Our spooookiest staff, the staff of the library, will judge, and we will reveal the three “hallow-queens” later that week. Those three winners will “trick or treat yo’ self” to the Luther swag of your choice. Can’t wait to see all your “gourd-geous” costumes!
