Due to winter storm conditions, the Luther Seminary campus will be closed on Monday, March 16. Remote operations and learning will be in effect for students and non-essential employees.
Community Event: Try Cross Country Skiing
Hey everybody! Spring is on the way, but with the big snowfall in the Twin Cities over the weekend, we have one last opportunity for some winter fun. This Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., folks on campus are invited to try cross country skiing—no experience or equipment required! Basic classic ski technique will be taught by some of your seminary colleagues. We will meet in the OCC and carpool to some local trails to ski around on some mostly flat terrain for about 2 hours before returning to campus. Keep an eye on the community announcements tomorrow for more details. Fill out this online form if you are interested in participating. Reach out to Sam Maier at smaier001@luthersem.edu if you have any questions.
Students: Prizes for Bible Papers
The Bible Division invites graduating M.Div. and M.A. students to submit papers for the Milton Prize in Old Testament and/or the Bruce Prize in New Testament. Prizes will be awarded at commencement to the students submitting the best papers in the areas of Old Testament and New Testament studies. The prizes include monetary awards. Papers written by graduating M.Div. or M.A. students during their seminary careers are eligible (both December 2025 and May 2026 graduates). These may be course papers, independent study projects, or papers written for this occasion. Papers should not exceed 6,000 words in length. Papers are due by email to Kathryn Schifferdecker, chair of the Bible Division, by Wednesday, April 15 (kschiffer@luthersem.edu). Learn more on these webpages about the criteria the Bible division uses to judge the papers: Milton Prize in Old Testament and Bruce Prize in New Testament. Winners of the Milton and Bruce prizes will be recognized at the commencement ceremony. (And did we mention there are monetary awards?) Talk with your Bible professors or Kathryn Schifferdecker for more information.

Staff Conversations on Campus Relocation [In-Person Only + Online Only]
Luther staff are invited to one of two upcoming spaces to hold conversation with one another about the relocation of the seminary. This is not a program-oriented conversation nor one that has in view any logistical, architectural, or real estate decisions. It is a conversation space to process what we’re holding—personally and as a community—as we approach the move. Likely, many of us are experiencing everything from deep grief to hopeful anticipation, often intermingled and with a lot in between. We invite you to bring all of this into a spacious conversation with one another. There are two opportunities, and you are invited to choose one to attend:
Tuesday, March 24 – 12 p.m. In-Person Only, lunch provided, OCC Dining Room
Tuesday, April 7 at 12 p.m. Zoom Only (link to come)
We want to be able to speak with one another in a face-to-face way, so we are holding these conversations in one modality at a time. Choose which one works best for you. Chris Jacobsen (cjacobsen003@luthersem.edu) and Cody Sanders (csanders001@luthersem.edu), both members of the Future Space Working Group, will be holding this space and helping to facilitate conversation. If you have questions, please contact them.
