Lunch Conversation with Steve Lellelid on Wednesday, September 26th

Posted on September 13, 2018

Why a Bible for the Tandroy of South Madagascar?

Bring your lunch and join Steve in the Auxiliary Dining Room for this talk. Steve worked in Africa and Madagascar multiple times. The first time was to construct Garden Wells in Niger West Africa; the second time was to direct the Agricultural Department of the Malagasy Luther Church. Finally, he took leave permanently to reconstruct churches after devastating cyclone Gretelle in the eastern districts of Manakara, Farafangana, and Vaingandraon, Madagascar, then moved to the Androy Region to build 250 water catchment basins for villages, churches, schools, and hospitals.
In 1999 he began the development of a Tandroy-Eng/Malagasy dictionary on computer, and commencing the translation of the Tandroy Bible. In parallel with this work, he’s developed remedies from 1000 local plants, training dozens of men and women in their use, and personally treated 40,000 Tandroy. Also for five years he has, with the assistance of The Adsum Foundation of Belfast, Ireland, trained about 7,000 Tandroy in 300 new centers each year. The Bible is now published and imminent.

Spirit Lab – What is God up to at Luther?

Posted on September 11, 2018

For the second year, the office of the seminary pastor is supporting Spirit Lab, an ongoing experiment in spiritual formation for the Luther community. In class and at contextual sites, Luther students are being formed as theological thinkers and skilled leaders. The places where God is forming us into followers of Jesus are less obvious. Spirit Lab seeks to enliven, empower and stretch the Luther community to grow in God’s adventurous way of death and resurrection. We’re doing this by listening to God by listening to each other–and then engaging in faithful experiments as a community based on what we hear.

This year, Spirit Lab is being led by a cohort of three: Bethany Ringdal, Sara Jensen, and Esther Sianipar. We invite you to pray for this ongoing adventure in discernment and action, and to join the Luther Seminary Spirit Lab Facebook page for updates. We’d love to start our listening by listening to you; be in touch by e-mailing bringdal001@luthersem.edu or talking to Bethany, Sara or Esther at any time.
