On July 17 we will move from passwords to passphrases for our logins. We will not force everyone to change their passwords to passphrases at one time. The new requirements will be in effect on July 17, so when you next update your password the new requirements will be in effect. This is both more secure and easier to remember. With Duo most students and faculty will not need to change their passphrase annually anymore (if you are the victim of any phishing, you will need to change your passphrase at that point). We have more details on this Passphrases FAQ. We have moved this switchover back a few days from previous announcements to give more time for thorough testing.
