Lunch & Learn Zoom
The focus of the lunch presentation will be Genesis 1 and Acts 8 as models of a faithful response to LGBTQ+ people, responses that affirm goodness and inclusion. In briefly exploring these passages, Sabia-Tanis will highlight how we might put biblical guidance into practice, particularly with transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people. We will also consider the costs to church and world of attitudes that exclude and stigmatize.
The Rev. Dr. Justin Sabia-Tanis is associate professor of Social Transformation and Leadership at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. He is a queer, trans theologian who recently served as managing director at the Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies in Religion (CLGS). His scholarship is foundational in the field of trans theology and ministry, including his groundbreaking book “Transgender Ministry, Theology, and Communities of Faith.” Sabia-Tanis and Luther Seminary professor Cody Sanders are co-editors of the new book series “Queer and Trans Approaches to Religion and Theology” with Lexington Books.
