March “Brake Bread” Event

Posted on February 19, 2026

Our next “Brake Bread” event—where we gather around sustaining food while building deeper community connections and celebrating a particular campus space—will be during the Spring RFS 2 session, on Thursday, March 5, 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the OCC Dining Room. We’re calling this gathering Brake Bread: Community and Connection, as we host Luther board member Tracey Gibson in conversation with Emily Rova-Hegener and those in attendance as well. This “Brake Bread” event features dinner and drinks—including beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drink options but no coffee. Meal and drinks are provided by Community Life, the “Brake Bread” portion (including desserts!) by the Thrivent Grant. These “Brake Bread” gatherings are intentional moments to build relationships, listen to one another, laugh together, and celebrate the good work and learning being done among us. Please join us in this holy space to love one another more deeply in a time of uncertainty. If you have questions, email Emily Rova-Hegener in Contextual Learning, erovahegener001@luthersem.edu.

Be Still – Virtual Stillness Practice [Online]

Posted on February 19, 2026

The world around us seems to be getting heavier by the minute, and it’s often hard to know what’s ours to do when the needs of our neighbors all seem urgent and endless. When the world seems to be more than we can handle, God reminds us in Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” If you’re in need of a space to take a breath, slow down, and listen for the still small voice of God, please join us for the next installment of Be Still. We will engage in practice and discussion as we reflect on what it means to rest in God’s unforced rhythms of grace. We will meet via Zoom (link in email) on Thursday, February 19 at 6:15 p.m. CT. Email Alison Westphal, awestphal001@luthersem.edu, with questions or to let me know if you’re planning to join. If you’re interested in joining but can’t make it this week, don’t worry. We will be continue meeting the rest of the school year.

Weekly Lenten Soup, Bread, and Prayer Gathering

Posted on February 19, 2026

You are warmly invited to join our seminary community for a special time of Lenten soup, bread, and prayer. Beginning Tuesday, February 24, and continuing each Tuesday through March 31, we will gather from 6:30–7 p.m. for a simple meal of soup and bread. Following our time of soup and prayer, you are invited to join the Dean of Chapel online, either together in OCC 148 or individually in your rooms—as you feel most comfortable—for Virtual Vespers. As part of our communal Lenten practice, we will also take part in creating a mural together—watch for announcements about this activity. All are welcome, come as you are.
