This past week it has been heartbreaking to watch the spread of the fires in southern California and the loss that has come with it. This news is especially hard because the Luther community has students, alumni, family, friends, and colleagues who call California home. Though the fires will soon be out of the news cycle, the hard work of rebuilding and healing from the devastation has only just begun. We invite all of the Luther community to continue to pray for all touched by these fires. We also have been in touch with our ministry partners in southern California asking about trusted organizations that we could give to support communities financially. Feel free to give as you see fit and to share this list with others you may want to contribute.
- La Fuente Ministries – direct it to the “LFM Compasión-Compassion” fund and you can leave comments in the notes if there are specific ways you’d like the money to be used (This is a bilingual, multicultural church that several Fuller staff and professors attend that works directly with their neighbors in the Pasadena area.)
- Open Air Worker Emergency Fund through Inclusive Action
- California Community Foundation Wildfire Fund—a reputable, larger community organization
- Lutheran World Relief
- United Methodist Conference in southern California has set up a special fund – the Los Angeles Fires Recovery Fund – where people can contribute directly towards relief and recovery
- Los Angeles Fire Department Support Groups
