Harvest of Empire: The Untold Story of Latinos in America
Tuesday, September 24
3:30-4:30 p.m. on Zoom (link in email)
As part of our Hispanic-American Heritage Month celebration, we will gather as a community to learn more about the Latino community in the US. This year, instead of focusing solely on contemporary issues, we will explore the historical context behind the relationship between the US and various Central and Latin American countries. We encourage everyone who wishes to participate in the discussion to watch the film. It is about 90 minutes long and offers essential historical insights into migration patterns to the US using case studies from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, with a particular focus on the impact of NAFTA on migration. The film is available on YouTube—take some time to watch it before the discussion event. Our online discussion will focus on sharing insights and lessons learned from the film to better understand the current situation of the Hispanic community in the U.S.
