Fire Drill Summary (4/25) – Bockman Hall, Gullixson Hall and Olson Campus Center
1. There was good participation for the drill and response to the alarms.
2. Individuals took the drills seriously and were genuinely interested in assuring an effective evacuation.
3. The team members assisting with the drill heard comments of appreciation from participants.
4. Participants extended feedback regarding such things as: audible alarms being faint, lack of visual strobes and fire doors not closing properly due to propped/blocked open or in need of adjustment.
5. Timed results for drill:
a. Bockman Hall – 1 minute 40 seconds
b. Gullixson Hall – 2 minutes 04 seconds
c. Olson Campus Center – 1 minute 30 second
Continued focus and learning lessons
1. Be familiar with and utilize the closest door to get out.
2. 1-minute is the goal for evacuations, including in-place for areas of refuge.
3. A good rule of thumb is to stay about 150 feet away from the building. If firefighters do need to respond, they will need room near the buildings for trucks and stag of equipment.
4. Please participate and encourage others to as well. You never know when it may be a real fire and not a drill.
5. The Emergency Response Team will continue to review and recommend improvements.
a. The team is currently working to identify areas of refuge to be designated in each building for assisted rescue during an emergency.
b. Audible and visual alarms will be reviewed further.
c. Please submit any additional feedback through the facilities work request process.
