Church Architecture Crawl

Posted on April 19, 2024

On Saturday, April 20, from 9:00-11:45 a.m., join master’s student Caleb Rollins, local architectural historian Rolf Anderson, and Dr. Cody Sanders on a morning excursion to see three important gems of church architecture in the Twin Cities:

  • Chapel of the Cross in Northwestern Hall at Luther Seminary – designed by the firm of Luther Seminary alumn Edward Sövik, a leader in 20th c. religious architecture
  • Church of St. Bernard in St. Paul – an unusual Prairie/Art Nouveau church from the early 20th c.
  • Christ Church Lutheran in Minneapolis – a Modernist mid-century National Historic Landmark designed by famed father and son architects Eliel and Eero Saarinen.

All are invited to join us. Rolf Anderson will provide context and insight into these three buildings as we all take in their unique beauty. Meet at 9:00 a.m. outside of Northwestern Hall on the lower campus of Luther Seminary. If you can provide transportation for our carpool, let Cody know, csanders001@luthersem.edu.

Message from Gina Lotzer

Posted on April 19, 2024

Dear Colleagues,
As some of you may know, my husband suffered a traumatic brain injury in late January. Since that time his health has greatly diminished to the point where I need to take some time to figure out next steps to navigate through this period and into the future. I am going to be on FMLA beginning April 18. I know in my soul that John and I will have your full support throughout this time. I believe that prayer is powerful, so all I ask is that you keep us in your prayers. John and I will be working with skilled health professionals to help get him through this health crisis, and we put our faith in the hands of God whose eye is on the sparrow. . .and you know the rest!
Thank you all for being the best colleagues anyone could ask for!

Students, Please Thank a Luther Seminary Donor by May 12

Posted on April 18, 2024

Hello students! Many of you received an email from me yesterday asking you to write thank-you letters for donors by May 12. Someone kindly pointed out that their email was marked as possibly phishing. It was indeed a legitimate email, and we will look into why it was flagged. In the meantime, please complete those thank-you letters when you have a chance. If you did not receive a request to write a thank-you letter, do not worry—there will be opportunities for you to thank a donor in the future.
