Council Counsel – March 2025

Posted on March 14, 2025

The Student Council met on Monday, March 3. Highlights from the meeting include conversations about the successful events of the Spring RFS, reports from student organizations and representatives to various committees and boards, and a discussion about the upcoming sale of the Lower Campus. Some residents of the Lower Campus apartments expressed frustration with the loss of their housing. Dean of Students, Leon Rodrigues, was present to hear student concerns and committed to bringing them to seminary leadership. Dr. Rodrigues wanted students to know that the administration takes their concerns seriously and keeps them in mind when making decisions. Dr. Rodrigues shared that Jack Hendricks, the Residential Representative on the Student Council, will be part of the seminary’s transition committee that addresses the concerns surrounding the sale of Lower Campus. Dr. Rodrigues encouraged students to bring any concerns to him. The Student Council will be running a special election in mid-March to fill three vacant seats on the council: Master of Arts Representative, Graduate Certificate Representative, and (the brand new!) Neurodivergent and Dis/abled Students Representative. Keep an eye out for Community Announcements and emails with more information about nominating yourself or your peers for these seats and voting for them. The next council meeting will be at 12:00 p.m. CT on Monday, April 7, when the three new representatives will be installed. All members of the Luther Seminary community are welcome and encouraged to join. The meeting can be joined via Zoom (link in email). Email studentcouncil@luthersem.edu or your direct representative with any questions or concerns.
—Erik Nelson, Vice President, on behalf of the Student Council
