OCC Repairs Weekly Update: September 16-20
Repairs to the area around the west entrance of Olson Campus Center continued last week and this week. Our partners at G5 Construction have replaced or reinforced many of the main steel support beams in the outer walls and restructured some of the window frames along the outer wall of the chapel and in the tunnel. Now that structural support has been improved, the upper ramp surface and interior ramp membrane has been completely removed and some concrete replacement work has begun. They are taking levels on the upper ramp to mitigate swales where water and ice can pool. A newly discovered problem in the drainage pipe running southwest away from the building has been remediated.
For reminders about safety, project impacts, and communication, see my introductory message about the project.
As always, thank you for your support of our operations team and their work,
Rob Verke

The Church, the Pastor, and Resonance in an Accelerated Age: Theological Conversations with Hartmut Rosa
A great cultural shift seems to be happening to Protestant congregational life and pastoral identity. But recognizing what is actually changing can be difficult to name, and misdiagnosing the challenges we face can happen easily. On September 23 and 24, join us in a unique conversation between internationally-recognized practical and constructive theologians and renowned sociologist Hartmut Rosa. Rosa is considered one of most important big-idea sociologists in the world. During the conference, participants are invited into a conversation with Rosa about the future of congregational life and pastoral identity through critical theological engagement with his ideas and their implications for ministry in the present. We believe this event will inspire all those who care about the future of the church by clarifying the challenge before us and directing our attention toward the ways God is leading in the here and now. Speakers are: Hartmut Rosa, Gerardo Martí, Miroslav Volf, Andrew Root, Rahel Siebald, John Swinton, Claudia Welz, and Philip Ziegler. Visit the website to register now and use code ROSA20 to get 20% off the registration fee.
God Pause for September 18: James 3
In this devotion, Marie AK Anderson ’04 M.Div., reminds us that good works arise from how we respond to all Jesus has already done for us, not first from what he demands of us. Read today’s God Pause.
