In 2016, Luther Seminary’s 18-member alumni council took the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) as part of their long-term strategy to diversify the council both ethnically and denominationally.
 
In addition, the council committed to extending their meetings to work with IDI-related activities. Catherine Malotky, the staff member at Luther who worked with the alumni council until her retirement in December 2017, says, “We started checking in at every meeting, having set IDI goals and reporting on what happened. These conversations were quite meaningful, and many council members expressed appreciation for this work in the context of their calls as well.”
 
Catherine notes that this work is an ongoing process, and that the council continues to refine their approach, particularly when it comes to on-boarding new council members and helping them catch up to the group as a whole.
