It is often translated as thanksgiving.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a big week for those of us in the USA. Thursday is Thanksgiving. It is a day that we set aside to gather around a table with family and\/or friends to enjoy the spiritual practice of gratitude.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stevethomason.net\/2023\/11\/20\/good-grace-to-you-a-cartoonists-guide-to-thanksgiving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>to view my visual commentary on Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cartoonistbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Advent-flames_0015_flame-1-980x551.jpg\" alt=\"an advent wreath with four blue candles and one white candle. The first blue candle is lit.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Advent begins on Sunday. The texts for Advent this week cluster around a theme of hope. The people of Israel were in a dark time of suffering. They wondered where God was and how the promises made to Abraham could possibly come true.
