Chapel Services during The Craft of Preaching this week

You are invited to come to three special chapel services at 11am this week as part of The Craft of Preaching conference. Come hear these amazing preachers:

Monday, Oct. 1st: Marvin McMickle, President, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Rochester, N.Y. (No Cup of Blessing worship on this Monday night!)

Tuesday, Oct. 2nd: Amy Butler, Senior Minister Riverside Church, New York City

Wednesday, Oct. 3rd (Holy Communion): Frank Thomas, Professor, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis

After the conference, chapel as continues as usual on Thursday, October 4th with a Contemplative Service, and Cup of Blessing continues at 5:05pm on Monday, October 8th in OCC Dining Hall.

Guest lecture on Schizophrenia by Dr. Stephen Olson, Psychiatrist: University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry

Tuesday, October 2, 6:00-7:00 pm, Bockman Hall room 116.

Dr. Olson is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, and the Director of the Schizophrenia Specialty Clinic at the University of Minnesota. His interests include Schizophrenia and related disorders: Phenomenology, genetics, imaging, cognitive function, psychopharmacology.

This open lecture is part of the pastoral care class, Ministry with Persons with Mental Illness and Their Families. All interested persons welcome.

Financial Aid Update – Fall 2018

Posting of financial aid to student accounts:
All Luther Seminary financial aid (scholarships, grants, stipends and loans) have been applied to student accounts. You can view the balance in your account through the MyLutherNet portal.

To request the balance (or portion of balance) from your account send an email to the business office at busoffice@luthersem.edu.

If you are receiving federal student loans we are required to disburse the proceeds to your within 14 days. If you wish to leave a portion of your loan proceeds in your account for future terms you must notify the business office at the above email.

Proceeds will be mailed to your address of record. Please check your address in MyLutherNet to verify it is current. If you wish to pick your check up in the business office please include that information in your email.

Reminder about financial aid and taxes:
Scholarships are tax-free when:
• you are enrolled in a degree program;
• the funds are being used to cover required costs for your courses: tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment.

If the total amount of your scholarships in a calendar year exceeds the total amount of these costs, the excess amount is taxable income. It is your responsibility to determine your taxable status. For more information, contact the IRS at irs.gov or (800) 829-1040, or a tax professional. You can also review IRS Publication 970 – Tax Benefits for Education on the IRS website, which details scholarships and taxes.

Status of financial aid portal:
Due to technical issues, the financial aid portal found at www.luthersem.edu/faonline is currently unavailable.

Reminder: CYF Fellowship Lunch TODAY!

This is an opportunity for current CYF students—and anyone else who wants to learn more about the CYF program—to gather after chapel.

From 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Auxiliary Dining Room (OCC 148), we will be discussing CYF ministry in the Age of Science! Every participant will receive a free faith and science curriculum, and a few lucky guests will walk away with Andy Root’s newest book: “Exploding Stars, Dead Dinosaurs and Zombies.”

Reminder: Conversation about the Campus of the Future

Just a friendly reminder about our upcoming community conversations about the campus of the future. We’ll share the latest schematic design drawings from our architectural firm and update you about our housing strategy and the sale of the lower campus.
