Halloween Pizza and Trivia

Join Dr. Sanders in a “Course Design Lab” October 30 at 9:00 a.m.
As I’m developing the upcoming spring offering of Congregational Care and Formation, I’d love to have some imaginative conversation with students on the course design. Whether you’ve already taken the course, will take it in the spring, or will take it sometime in the future, I’d love for you to participate in this “design lab” to think alongside me about the elements of the course (readings, topics, questions, assignments) in ways that will help shape it into what I hope will be a useful, impactful, and transformative course of the future of your ministry. Meet in the Bockman 116 community room, or you can join via Zoom on Monday, October 30 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Light refreshments provided.
Save the Date: Fretheim Lecture with Amy-Jill Levine (January 9)
Join us at 7 p.m. on January 9, 2024, for an evening with renowned New Testament scholar Amy-Jill Levine. Professor Levine will deliver Luther Seminary’s 2024 Fretheim Lecture in Biblical Theology, “The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector: Why Knowledge of Jewish History Matters for Christian Preaching and Teaching.” She will also offer a workshop for area clergy and seminary students from 3:30–5 p.m. before the lecture. Both events will be held in Olson Campus Center and are free and open to the public. The lecture will be livestreamed at youtube.com/lutherseminary.
***This event will be held on the Tuesday evening between winter RFS sessions. Students traveling to campus for just one of the RFS classes in January are invited to stay a day later or arrive a day earlier in order to attend this lecture!***
Amy-Jill Levine is the Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace as well as the University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies Emerita and the Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies Emerita at Vanderbilt University. A prolific scholar, author, and lecturer, she describes herself as an unorthodox member of an Orthodox synagogue and a Yankee Jewish feminist who works to counter biblical interpretations that exclude and oppress.
The Fretheim Lecture honors the legacy of the late Terry Fretheim and his wife Faith. Terry and Faith were deeply involved in the life of the seminary during Terry’s 45 years as professor of Old Testament, and Faith continues to be a valued member of the wider Luther Seminary community. Previous Fretheim lecturers include Walter Brueggemann, Dennis Olson, Ellen Davis, and Beverly Roberts Gaventa.
