Pubs and Profs with Cody Sanders
Join us on Thursday, September 21, for our first Pubs and Profs of the year with our new Congregational Care Professor Cody Sanders! We’ll gather at Station 280 (2554 Como Ave #7, St Paul, MN 55108; walking distance from campus!) at 6pm! Appetizers will be provided. Entrees and alcoholic beverages will be on your own.
Topic: Sci-Fi Spiritual Care
How can ministers develop speculative futurist frameworks to cultivate caring communities for potential futures filled with both promise and peril? Can we engage in mental-spiritual time travel to visit possible futures? How do we discern God’s call from the pluriverse toward practices of feral hope amid myriad possibilities for flourishing among our human and more-than-human kin?
Reach out to communitylife@luthersem.edu or Natalie Wussler (nwussler001@luthersem.edu) with questions or carpool needs.
New: Stewardship-In-A-Box—Free for Seminary Students
Choose the ONE session that works in your life: September 13 (online) or September 21 (in person at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie, MN). Register here today!
Using tried and true methods from fundraising experts and stewardship leaders, this brand new digital resource created through a partnership of the seminary’s Stewardship Leaders Program and Church Anew will help congregations from the beginning to the end of a stewardship campaign.
This worship and spiritual practice series will help people of faith unpack some of what they have heard about money (and generosity), reflect on how God might be calling them to use all of their money (not just the portion they give away), and discern how people of all ages might participate in God’s mission in their congregation through financial generosity.
Seminary students: Use the code SEM50 at checkout and get $50 off our Stewardship in a Box resources! (This makes online free and $10 for in-person at St. Andrew to cover some of the cost of lunch.)
RFS Begins Friday, September 15
RFS begins this week! Make sure to review the RFS schedule and mark your calendar with important events, including this Friday’s Back-to-School Block Party from 4–7 p.m. No classes Friday night—all are welcome!
Virtual Coffee with Advocacy Chair Emelie Clements
Emelie will be hosting a virtual coffee chat for students on their Zoom, today, Wednesday, and Friday from 1–2 p.m. CST. See community announcements email for Zoom link.
The goal of this hour is for LGBTIA+ and allied students to come in and discuss changes they would like to see happen at Luther. No idea is too big. This space is for students not currently working within the advocacy group, nor is it for members of leadership, faculty, or staff- there will be separate coffee chats. You don’t need to stay the whole hour- just come, speak your piece, and you can leave! This is especially great if you’re a DL student who will not be attending our Ice Cream Social during the RFS! Grab a cuppa, and come on by!
Survey Research Group Announcement
Attention faculty and staff: Please join us at the Survey Research Group, formally known as the Qualtrics Users Group. We meet monthly via Zoom, with our next meeting on September 14 from 12–1 p.m. This group is for not just surveys, but also if you may use forms in Qualtrics, which is more sophisticated than Google Forms. For our next meeting we welcome you to come share how you use or plan to use Qualtrics in your work in your area or surveys in general. We would also like to discuss the future of this group.
If you have questions or want and/or want to be added to our group, please contact Trina Smith (tsmith002@luthersem.edu).
