A cross seminary Study trip to the 13th Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation will take place September 13-19, 2023 in Krakow, Poland. This cross-seminary trip is available for course credit for ELCA students and has limited enrollment.
The Lutheran World Federation assembly in Krakow, “One Body, One Spirit, One Hope” is hosted by the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland. (For more information on the assembly go the website.) LWF assemblies are vibrant gatherings that set the course of the communion for the next seven years. North American Lutherans have a rich history of participation in the global work of this Lutheran communion. Founded in 1947 after the 2nd World War, and established to foster relationships among Lutherans as the colonial frameworks were taken down, it continues today in efforts to maintain a vibrant Lutheran witness in the world alongside its ecumenical partners.
On this trip, students will experience the diversity of Lutheran churches in communion, meet ecumenical leaders, network with global Lutheran representatives, and join in worship, fellowship, and cross-cultural learning. Students will register for the course through their own seminary and assignments can be tailored to meet the degree requirements of their particular school. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from Poland, as well as housing. Registration for the conference will be subsidized through the Dorothy Marple bequest to support global and ecumenical education for seminarians. Students are encouraged to check with their own seminary for any additional funding.
Students interested in participating should contact Maria Erling – merling@uls.edu or Terri Elton – telton@luthersem.edu by May 31, 2023.
