Save the Date: November 16 Chapel and Reception With Canon Robert Two Bulls
The Luther Seminary community is invited to participate in events scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, on campus. The seminary will welcome Rev. Canon Robert Two Bulls to preach in chapel at 11 a.m. Central. Following chapel, he will join students for fellowship and a conversation guided by the seminary’s artist-in-residence Jess Grams during a light lunch reception in Dining Rooms A and B.
Robert serves as the Missioner for the Department of Indian Work and Multicultural Ministries for the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. He spent much of the first two decades of his life off and on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota as a member of the Oglala Lakota Oyate. Over the past 35 years, he has lived, studied, and worked on both the East and West Coasts (spending time in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Los Angeles), and he now resides in South Minneapolis. Since the 1980s, his work within the Episcopal Church has related to Indigenous communities. A well-known artist, Robert has a deep interest in where art and spirituality intersect. After earning a bachelor’s degree in American history at the University of Maryland, He obtained a Master of Divinity from the General Theological Seminary. He was ordained deacon in the Diocese of Utah and priest in the Diocese of Los Angeles.
While the student reception will not be available online, all are encouraged to engage in chapel, which will be live streamed at https://www.luthersem.edu/live/.

Wednesday Chapel: Official Close of the Chapel of the Cross, Northwestern Farewell
On November 17 at 11 a.m Central, we will be holding a chapel service with Holy Communion in Northwestern Chapel to officially decommission and close the Chapel of the Cross. Northwestern Hall (1501 Fulham St.) is the building kitty-corner to the Olson Campus Center. You can also attend the service via livestream.
Leading Through Divided Times Open Office Hour
We are leading in divided times, in society and even within our congregations.
Cultivating Christ-like community is a great challenge in the face of entrenched prejudices, genuine injustice and our own wounds.
How do church leaders preach unity without it sounding hollow?
Join us in the Faith+Lead Learning Lab at 1 p.m. Central Thursday, November 18, in an open office hour discussion of leading in divided times. Not a member of the lab? It’s free! Just go to the Faith+Lead Learning Lab site and request to join. Once you are added, RSVP under “Events” to get a reminder email for the meeting. Hope to see you there!
A New Article From The Concord: Religious Exemption: A Primer for Seminary Students
Our reporter, Mort Nelson Meyenburg, has written an excellent summary of religious exemptions! Read her review of the legal, religious, and economic reasons that churches and businesses generally refrain from granting religious exemptions at The Concord’s website. Hopefully this information helps you speak to your congregation or context about the recent rise of “religious exemption” in our modern vocabulary.
The Concord stands with Luther Seminary and the ELCA in encouraging all eligible people to become vaccinated against COVID-19 for the sake of our safety and that of our neighbors. For information about the COVID-19 virus and vaccine, we encourage you to check out the Mayo Clinic’s excellent online guide.
