Financial Wellness – An Invitation for All Students

Posted on May 19, 2021

Use this Google Form to choose the offerings that best meet your needs.

Luther Seminary cares deeply about the financial well-being of all our students and their families. The Stewardship Leaders Program has developed six offerings, based on the results of the financial wellness survey sent to all students in October 2020. These opportunities are open to Luther Seminary students and their partners. NOTE: Students graduating in June of 2021 can take advantage of these opportunities through the summer.

Option Descriptions

Financial Wellness Conversation with Grace Pomroy: Grace is the director of the Stewardship Leaders Program at Luther Seminary and a Certified Financial Education Instructor. She brings years of experience and has a passion for all things related to money and ministry. It is always a shame-free zone talking finances with Grace.

LSS Financial Counseling: Work with a certified financial counselor at Lutheran Social Services as part of the new partnership between Luther Seminary and Lutheran Social Services.

Debt Accompaniment Pilot (Part 1): Work with Grace and LSS Financial Counseling to create a plan to reduce the amount of student loan debt you’ll need to borrow during seminary and even begin paying down your debt during seminary. Designed for current and incoming students.

Debt Accompaniment Pilot (Part 2): Work with Grace and LSS Financial Counseling to create a student loan debt repayment plan that is aligned with the salary you can expect to earn after you graduate. Designed for students nearing graduation.

Clergy Tax Information: An opportunity for students preparing for ordained ministry to learn more about the intricacies of clergy taxes and how it might apply to their particular situation. We are partnering with Clergy Financial Resources and will refer students directly to them. NOTE: This is not a tax preparation service. Participation in the Clergy Tax Workshop is helpful but not required.

We hope you can join us at 11 a.m. Central on Zoom for a time of learning together. The Zoom link will be in the community announcements email.

Jin has loved serving the local church (especially the beautiful people of CAN!) as a pastor continuously since 1993 and takes his apostolic calling seriously in sharing the good news of Jesus far and wide. Jin is passionate about justice, ecumenical unity, and decolonizing the church in favor of village renewal. He and Soon Pac love being with their two grown children and their parents.

Chapel Podcast: The Liturgy of the Hours

Posted on May 18, 2021

This podcast was a dream that became a necessity during the pandemic. Thanks for listening to our chapel podcast this year. We have had more than 5,700 downloads!

We finish this school year with Pentecost: when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, empowering them to go out into the world and abundantly share God’s Word. We too are called to go out in Christ’s abundance by the power of the Spirit.

Nate Crary and Hannah Sackett lead us through a time of morning prayer that points us to the Holy Spirit, at work in the world still today. Join us on the episode page or wherever you get your podcasts.

Season Seven begins in June.
