The Bible Division invites the submission of papers by graduating M.Div. or M.A. students for consideration for the Milton and Bruce prizes.

The Milton Prize for outstanding work in Old Testament and the Bruce Prize for outstanding work in New Testament will be awarded at commencement to the students submitting the best papers in the area of Old Testament and New Testament studies. The prizes include monetary awards.

Papers written by graduating M.Div. or M.A. students during their seminary careers are eligible. These may be course papers, independent study projects, or papers written for this occasion.

The deadline for this year’s contest is April 28, 2021. For more information and submission guidelines, see the Milton Prize webpage and the Bruce Prize webpage.

As the student rep for Professor Jennifer Wojciechowski’s review, I am inviting all students to share their views and perspectives on her teachings, interactions, and research in a 50-minute Zoom call, 3-3:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 23.

The Zoom link will be provided before the date of the Zoom call.

The Liturgy of the Hours podcast, by Luther Seminary Chapel, offers prayer for wherever you may be. We mark one year since we last worshipped together in the Chapel of the Incarnation. We acknowledge this difficult anniversary as we continue our way through this season of Lent. Night prayer invites into a time of contemplation as we reflect on our losses we have endured. 

We are led through this time of reflective Compline prayer by liturgists Michael Morris, Green Bouzard, and Luther Seminary student Sumner (Moose-Off). We calm our hearts and our minds now as we prepare ourselves for the presence of God.

Ken Wheeler is a retired pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America who has served as an anti-racism trainer in the Greater Milwaukee Synod and on the board for the Commission for Multicultural Ministries. In 2012, he was a recipient of the Milwaukee Black Excellence Award, honored as a religious leader. Wheeler has traveled to Tanzania to study the growth of the church there, as well as to Kenya as part of a delegation to engage in missional conversations between North and South partners. He has a bachelor’s degree in religion from Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota), and a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, Ohio).

All gatherings will be at 11 a.m. Central on Zoom, except for Fridays, which are on the Luther Seminary Chapel Facebook page. The Zoom link will be available in the community announcements email.

Tuesday, March 16 – Holy Conversations
