Chapel Offering: The Liturgy of the Hours

Posted on January 12, 2021

Our nation has changed since our last episode was released. The U.S. Capitol was besieged by white supremacists and conspiracy theorists, violent protestors who sought to overturn the election results. This riot was incited by the sitting president. Five people were killed.

The prospect of impeachment, further unrest, and division weighs down the cold, crisp winter air. We hold our breath. We shout out. We wait. We seek healing and justice.

And Jesus finds us where we are, knows us as we are, and calls us. Come and see.

In this way Jesus does not offer an answer, but an invitation to an open-ended journey. In this way, Jesus offers himself: healer, redeemer, Christ.

Our liturgists this week are Mark Ertl and Luther Seminary student Chavaleh Forgey, who lead us through song, scripture and prayer. Mark offers a pared-down liturgy that meets us in our starkness and calls us to be children of Christ’s holy, healing, revealing light.
