Stay Safe on Campus and Everywhere:
Being on a seminary campus is fun, but it’s easy to gain a false sense of security and feeling of safety when surrounded by your peers. After all, they’re just honest students like you, right? Not always, and many times there are new students, guests, and neighbors that we don’t know on campus.

It’s important to acknowledge and remember that you don’t always know who you can trust, even when you’re in the seminary campus bubble.

While the threat of danger should not always be your first assumption, it’s important to be prepared if a situation would ever become dangerous.

Additionally, there are easy ways to prevent yourself from becoming more vulnerable than necessary or putting yourself into potentially harmful situations.

While we certainly hope that these situations won’t arise, it’s always best to be prepared for any given situation.
 Don’t allow technology to make you unaware of your surroundings. Headphones are not an excuse for losing track of your surroundings. Be safe and aware.

 Never walk alone at night. On campus please call Campus Services for an escort. 651-324-9911

 Utilize locks. Leaving your doors open when you are not in the space means something might be stolen, leaving doors open when you are in the space leaves you open to danger. Lock your doors.

 Know your way around campus. Know the streets and sidewalks on campus. Entrances and exits should be familiar to you whether inside or outside the buildings.

 Always have emergency contacts on you or in your device. If you have a smartphone, program emergency numbers into it. It’s one of the first spots hospitals check if you’re admitted alone because they are able to bypass your passcode in order to access your contacts.

Stay alert and aware and you will improve your chances of being safe.

To receive emergency information from campus authorities please make sure you have registered for ‘Text Message Alerts’ at https://www.luthersem.edu/campus/campus-safety/ Or self-register at https://luthersem.omnilert.net/

*After-hours emergencies are situations that are life-threatening or will result in property damage. Examples include: fire, no-heat, broken exterior door, flowing water, person locked in an elevator.

Today’s COVID 19 Safety Tip:

Cleaning Your Phone
• Turn off your phone before you start to clean it.
• Apple recommends using a lens cloth, the sort you might use to clean your glasses. If you have an iPhone 7 or higher, which is more water-resistant, you can also use a cloth with a small amount of warm soapy water, as long as you avoid getting that water into openings on the phone. Other phone makers don’t specifically say that this works, though you should generally be safe with most modern phones released in the past several years that have some sort of water resistance.
• Apple and Samsung advise against using cleaning products since they can damage the fingerprint-resistant coatings on the screens. But desperate times call for desperate measures and I’ve found I’m more worried about germs than fingerprints on the screen. For years I’ve gently wiped down the screen with a Clorox wipe or diluted rubbing alcohol against recommendations without any issues. Just be careful and, again, try to avoid getting them in the ports.
