Capital Region Watershed District Partner Grant Opportunity
Are you interested in knowing more about our local watershed district? Have you considered how it connects to our faith and action in the world? If so, there’s an informational meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Oct 10th 12:00-1:30 (lunch included with rsvp). Lindsey Schwantes of Capital Region Watershed District will guide a discussion at their office near University/Snelling (595 Aldine St). If you are a Luther seminary faculty, staff, or student with interest in this project, please reach out to Heidi Ferris of Growing Green Hearts to rsvp (Heidi@growinggreenhearts.com) . She is currently working with two ELCA congregations in this watershed district and invites Luther Seminary participants to join in as well. Here’s a quick summary of the work ahead:
Capital Region Watershed District offers partner grants for $2000-$20,000. Grants applications are due October 31, 2019 to fund projects running between January to December 2020.
ELCA Lutheran churches within the Capital Region Watershed district will work together to improve their water education and water stewardship practices. Rather than reinventing a new framework, they will work collaboratively with Growing Green Hearts and CRWD over January to December 2020 to embed lessons, projects, events, and communications into existing traditions and timing of the churches.
Using the tried and tested curriculum, Connect-the-Drops: Faith, Science & Youth Leadership, will deepen sense-of-place and move people from knowledge to action in 6 lessons. These lessons include a mixture of visits by environmental educator Heidi Ferris of Growing Green Hearts AND lifting up of lay leaders from the congregation who have attended a water education workshop. That leadership training along with monthly networking meetings will grow community and support systems for sustainability work at churches across the watershed. Quarterly water-themed events for participating congregations and their neighborhoods blend culture, creativity with water stories of water action.
