Posted on March 12, 2019

Extended Deadline for Submissions: April 15, 2019

The Dr. Jeffrey S. & Mrs. Sherri H. Brindle Award in Medical Ethics is awarded annually to M.Div. and M.A. seniors and any advanced graduate student (M.Th., D.Min., Ph.D.) at Luther Seminary. It is an academic essay award (financial amount of award determined annually – $750 for 2019). The deadline for submissions is now April 15, 2019.

Submission details:
Luther Seminary students in good academic standing may submit an essay to the Chair of the History/Theology Division by April 15, 2019. Winning essays will typically be placed in the library’s Digital Commons, and considered for publication in Word & World.

Students submit one high-quality academic essay of 4,500 – 10,000 words on the topic of medical ethics to a panel of professors in the History-Theology division. The topic of medical ethics will be interpreted broadly, but medicine and/or medical practice must be addressed. The ideal essay will integrate issues in theology, medicine and ministry/practice. Meaningfully engages medicine or medical practice, theology, and ethics.

* Award may or may not be awarded depending upon the quality of submissions. Award winners must be in good academic standing, and must be Luther Seminary students at the time of the award or during the previous academic year.
