The 2019 Abdel Ross Wentz Prize for Historical Writing on American Lutheran History. Wentz was a leading figure in American Lutheranism, and his family established with the Lutheran Historical Society of the Mid-Atlantic an endowment providing prize money for the best history paper on a topic related to North American Lutheranism produced by a first-degree seminarian or graduate student. The prize is in the amount of $2,500. Read more about Wentz and the prize details on the society’s website.

Papers for consideration by the prize committee should include a letter of recommendation from a professor along with two copies and a cover sheet which includes the author’s contact information (address, phone, email), institution, and degree program to be postmarked by August 31, 2019 and mailed to:

During the community meal on Wednesday, March 13, stop by the narthex in OCC to browse jewelry, art, accessories, music, and more from artists in the Luther community. Each artist will be supporting a good cause with a portion of their proceeds, and several are interested in taking commissions for custom art. Shop local and support artists and causes in our community!

Join us for community meal and penny wars in a Luther Seminary Food Shelf Fundraiser event!

Each group (faculty/staff, students, etc…) will have a jar, and the object of the game is to collect as many “points” as possible. Each penny awards the group a positive point, but any coin or dollar denomination higher than a penny takes points away. You want to put pennies in your own jar while putting higher amounts in the others’ jars! The group with the most points wins!

Bring your $$$ to lunch on Wednesdays or to the Student Affairs office NW 120.

Our financial lives can be stressful, but they don’t have to be. Studies show that financial health is key to overall wellness, but sometimes it’s hard to know how to take the next step. To support you and your ministry, we’re offering a new service—confidential, student-focused, and at no cost to you.

If you have $50,000 or more in educational debt, you have an opportunity to strategize with a professional to assess the impact of that debt and plan for financial health as you move into ministry. For this service, “education debt” includes loans prior to and including your time at Luther.

This program is funded by a grant from the Lilly Foundation and will cost you only time and effort. And, believe us, it will be worth your time! Meetings can happen by phone or in person, and will be entirely confidential at no cost to you.
