Clergy Tax Law Short Course/ELCA Benefit Introduction

It is time to mark your calendars’ for the annual Clergy Tax Law Short Course/ELCA Benefit Introduction. The morning course will serve as a brief primer to the intricacies of clergy tax law. This has been very well received in the past. All MDIV students who are graduating in the 2018/2019 academic year are encouraged to attend. The morning session on clergy tax law is not denominationally specific. The afternoon session will introduce the benefit package offered for ALL employees in the ELCA. The afternoon session would be appropriate for any MDIV or MA who will be seeking employment with an ELCA organization.

Tentative Agenda:

8:00 am to 8:30 am Registration
8:30 am to Noon Clergy Tax Law Course
Noon to 12:45 pm Lunch (provided)
12:45 pm to 3:00 pm Introduction to Portico (ELCA) Benefits Options

Registration will be required. Additional information will be coming later.

Posted on January 7, 2019

Catrina Ciccone, Ph.D. Candidate in Congregation Mission and Leadership, will defend her dissertation, “Risen With Healing in Her Wings: An Ecclesiological Ethnography of Three Young Congregations in St. Paul, Minnesota”. Thesis adviser is Mary Hess. Thesis readers are Gary Simpson and Christian Scharen.

What is a Ph.D. oral defense? The oral defense is the final step before graduation for Ph.D. degree candidates. The student has finished all research and is presenting a thesis that is an original contribution to the field of scholarship. A copy of the completed thesis is available prior to the defenses for those in the Luther Seminary community: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LTiKtCgAswK71mzFIHXocFfNNtyiQYhc/view?usp=sharing

The oral examination is a public event open to faculty, students, staff and guests; however, other than the candidate, only faculty members have speaking privileges.
